For this fantastic series, I helped film the aye aye sequence in episode one. We travelled to the east coast of Madagascar to film this extraordinary animal. Our aim was to film the aye aye's foraging and to show their incredible foraging technique. The aye-aye rapidly taps on a tree trunk  using its long, bony middle finger, at a rate of up to eight times per second, cupping its large ears forward to listen intently to the echoes produced by the tapping. These echoes help the aye-aye detect differences in sound that indicate insect tunnels beneath the bark.
